If you like browsing around the internet and downloading images, you may have noticed that many websites now display images in Google’s WEBP format and not a standard format like JPG or PNG.
Google’s WEBP image format utilizes a unique image compression system to display images at approximately two thirds the size of the same image compared JPEG or PNG format.
Although this is good for saving data, this format is not yet supported by some of the most popular image tools around. This makes it a hassle to download and view or edit wallpapers, for example, as you cannot set a WEBP image as your desktop wallpaper.
There are, however, multiple solutions to this problem. Here are your options that you can use to avoid saving WEBP images and save them as PNG or JPG images instead.
Use URL Trick
There is a simple URL trick you can use to avoid downloading WEBP images. It is really easy and doesn’t require any external tools.
first, right click on a WEBP image>open image in new tab.
The image will be opened in a new tab. Now, click on the address bar at the top and go to the end of the url. It should look like this:
Delete the last three letters (-rw) and press Enter.
After the image reloads, right click on the image>save image as. Voila! Now you should be able to download the image in JPG format.
Use a Different Web Browser
The simplest way to avoid downloading WEBP images is to use a browser that doesn’t support WEBP. When such browsers are used to download images from a website that uses the WEBP format, it has to serve JPEG or PNG versions of those same images.
Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer are some of the most popular browsers that don’t support WEBP format. Downloading images in these browsers is as simple as right-clicking on your desired image, clicking on ‘save image as’, and saving as JPG or PNG format.

From here on, whenever you right-click on an image in a website, you will get the option to save image as a PNG.
clicking on that option will allow you to save that image in PNG format.
Use MS Paint

Choose a destination for the file, then click “Save.” Once your image is finished converting, it will appear in the folder you saved it as the format you saved it in.
Use an Online Conversion Tool
